Account, trial & billing

Understand desktop trials, the license and sync required for browser editing, and collaborator seats.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

What the account is for

Use the same email address when signing into the app and managing purchases. The web app’s account area provides downloads and purchase/subscription management. Browser editing requires sign-in, a purchased Plotscribe license, and a sync subscription; desktop local files can be opened without an account.

In Settings → Account, set Your name for author information rather than relying on your email as the manuscript author. Review a book’s own author information and exported title page if you write under a pen name.

Profile, password, and machines

  • In your account in the web app, open Account and security to change the author name, or use Change beside Password. Enter the current password and confirm the new one. Changing the password signs out other browsers and machines; preserve their local-only or unsent work first.
  • If you have forgotten your password, use the sign-in page’s password-reset flow and the emailed link. Never forward a reset or sign-in link to another person.
  • The account email is displayed rather than editable. Contact support if you need to change it.
  • Signed-in machines lists devices that have signed in and whether they collected the license. Forget only removes the listing: it does not revoke a license already on that machine, and the device can reappear when it signs in again.
  • Use the account’s Desktop app section to download for another machine. Review platform requirements and use the matching installer; an extra personal computer is not an extra collaborator seat.

The app purchase

The desktop writing trial lasts 7 days. When it ends, desktop writing is read-only until licensed. Browser editing requires a purchased license and sync even during the trial. Reading, search, and export remain available. The app purchase is one-time, not a subscription.

The app price is $10. Use the account purchase flow and check the license state in Settings → Account afterward. The checkout shows the actual amount before you pay.

On desktop, an existing license and locally available writing can be used offline without sync. A license alone does not unlock browser editing. If a purchase is not recognized, reconnect, verify the account used to buy it, and inspect the license status before starting another purchase.

Workspace sync and browser editing

Sync is $5/month per Workspace, including the owner. Each additional collaborator seat is $2/month. Seats are for other people, not for the owner’s additional computers.

Buy capacity before inviting collaborators. Invitations reserve existing capacity; removing a member does not automatically reduce paid seat capacity. Adjust seats and cancellation in subscription management.

Browser access can come through membership in a subscribed Workspace; invited collaborators do not each need their own Workspace subscription. Each browser editor still needs a purchased app license and the appropriate content permission.

When your account no longer has a qualifying sync subscription through any Workspace, browser editing becomes read-only. Scheduling cancellation is not necessarily an immediate end to access; check subscription management for the end date. The app purchase, licensed desktop writing, and reading/export of locally available work remain intact.

Before signing out

In the web app, export local-only Worlds and resolve or export unsent changes before signing out. Sign-out clears account-local browser storage. Signing back in cannot recover local-only writing erased from that storage.

Do not share sign-in links or authentication tokens with support or other team members. Each collaborator should use their own account and Workspace invitation.
