Download & export a World
Choose between an editable World copy, readable text, and a finished manuscript.
Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

Choose what you need to keep
- A World copy (.plotscribe, with media packaged when needed) preserves the project for Plotscribe. Choose it for backups or moving your editable work.
- Export to folder writes readable chapters and reference material as Markdown. Plain text is also available through Export manuscript. These are useful outside Plotscribe, but are not a promise of complete round-trip editing fidelity.
- Word, EPUB, and PDF are reader/editor deliverables. Use Export manuscript to choose how the manuscript is assembled; they are not substitutes for a full World backup.
Save an editable copy
- In the browser, open Worlds and choose All Worlds in the Worlds list, find the local-only World marked Stored in this browser, and choose Download World. The browser’s list has no Local entry. On desktop, right-click the World in the Library and choose Export a copy…. Team Workspace Worlds are sync-only and offer no World copy.
- Let the download or file write finish and check its report. If media cannot be read, preserve the original and investigate the listed omissions.
- Keep a standalone .plotscribe file intact. If the export is a ZIP containing project.plotscribe and media, keep the package together and extract it before opening its folder on desktop.
- Save the copy outside the app’s working storage, ideally in a separate backup location.
Export readable text
Use Export to folder… for a Markdown representation, or Everything, as Markdown / Everything, as plain text in Export manuscript. The ‘everything’ export is for carrying your writing out, rather than selecting only the chapters marked for a polished manuscript.
In the browser, a multi-file export is downloaded as a package rather than written into a native folder you can edit in place. Check the resulting files and keep the full World copy too if you need references, versions, and structure.
An export is a snapshot
An exported file does not update as you continue writing. Download again after further work. Reopening or importing an old export does not automatically merge it with a newer World.
When sending writing to another person, choose the least extensive format they need. A full World can contain research, notes, alternate drafts, and material you did not intend as part of the finished book.
