Worlds, books & chapters

Understand the hierarchy, organize your library, and keep multiple books in one World.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

One World, one or more books

A World is the shared setting and project. Its books (also called Stories) share characters, places, notes, and planning material. A book holds its own manuscript order and writing format. A chapter is a document you write; a page is a measurement of the manuscript, not a separate document.

A Workspace is different: it is the cloud space that holds synced Worlds and a writing team. Creating a local World does not automatically add it to a Workspace.

Find and manage your work

  1. Choose Worlds, at the start of the path along the top, to return to the library. Its sidebar lists All Worlds and each Workspace; when the sidebar is collapsed they appear as tabs in the header. The browser has no Local entry: existing browser-local Worlds remain in All Worlds. Desktop also offers Local. Search, sort, or select the intended Workspace to narrow the list.
  2. Open a World, then choose Library in the sidebar to see its books, or use the book’s name in the path along the top to switch to the manuscript you want to work on.
  3. Use the item’s actions menu for the commands available there, such as renaming, copying, exporting, or removing an item. Read confirmation text before deleting anything.

Copies are not automatic sync

A copied or imported World and a downloaded export are not a live mirror of the original. Keep track of which copy you are editing. Export before reorganizing or removing work, and use Workspace sync when you deliberately want supported changes to move between devices.
