Alternate chapter versions

Try another direction without replacing the chapter used in your book.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

Try another version

  1. Open the chapter and choose Versions. Main version is the text currently used in the book.
  2. Choose Try another version. If you are viewing an alternate, the new version starts from that selected draft; otherwise it starts from the main version.
  3. Name the version and edit it in the version editor. Let pending saves finish before switching or closing.

Make a version the main one

  1. Read the alternate draft and confirm it is the direction you want in the manuscript.
  2. Choose Make main version. The previous main version is saved as another version, rather than silently discarded.
  3. Return to the main editor and check the chapter in context.

Versions are not independent backups

Versions belong to the World. They are useful for creative alternatives, not a replacement for exporting the project. A lost local browser World can lose its versions too, so keep external copies.
