Your first World

Go from opening Plotscribe to writing a chapter with its own character and plan.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

Choose browser or desktop

The web app asks you to sign in. Browser editing requires both a purchased Plotscribe license and a sync subscription; without both, existing Worlds remain readable and downloadable. Browser-local writing is kept in that browser profile, not in a folder. The desktop app can open and edit local Worlds without an account; signing in is used for account features such as sync and licensing.

The desktop writing trial lasts seven days. Reading and export remain available after it ends. Sync is separate from the app purchase: optional for desktop writing, required alongside a purchased license for browser editing.

If the browser opens read-only

The access dialog offers Your account, Set up sync, and Continue read-only. Continue read-only dismisses the dialog; it does not unlock editing. The persistent banner explains which browser purchases are needed.

Your account opens your account in a new tab, starting at Desktop app, where you can download the installer. Installing the desktop app does not move browser-local Worlds: download each World separately and import it on desktop.

A purchased license plus membership in a subscribed Workspace qualifies for browser access; an invited collaborator does not need to buy a separate Workspace subscription. The World’s content permissions still decide whether you can edit it.

Make a World and write

  1. Open Worlds and choose New World. Browser creation requires a purchased license and sync; a desktop trial does not unlock browser creation. Give the World a name you’ll recognize in your library.
  2. Choose where the World should live. On desktop, a local copy lives in a folder; in the browser, it lives in browser storage. Choose a Workspace to sync the new World. Having a subscription does not automatically upload a local-only World.
  3. A new World starts with one novel-style book. Open its first chapter from Chapters in the sidebar, give it a title, and begin writing. A World can contain more than one book, including a screenplay added later from the World’s Library, but you don’t need a large structure to start.
  4. Watch the save status. If a save fails, keep the app open and resolve the error before leaving or clearing storage.

Connect the writing to its context

  1. Select a character’s name in your prose and choose New entity in the button that appears beside it. Add an overview and a detail such as Eye color.
  2. Open Plan from the sidebar. In Outline, use Plot point on the chapter’s row and write a short description of what you intend to happen.
  3. Return with Write in the sidebar and open Chapter context, the panel button at the right of the title bar. The chapter plan stays beside the prose; it does not write the scene for you.
  4. Export a copy when you reach a useful stopping point. Keep copies outside the browser or app’s working storage.
