Notes, annotations & tasks

Capture research, attach a note in several places, and keep passage feedback anchored.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

Capture and attach a World Note

A World Note is research or a reminder. A plot point describes what happens in the story. A chapter synopsis summarizes a chapter. Keep these roles distinct so the right material appears in the right place.

  1. Open Notes in the sidebar, or Quick notes (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+K) from the foot of the chapter sidebar, and choose New note. Add a title and write the body.
  2. Use Attach to an entity or chapter to make it available in context. One note can have several attachments; its words are not duplicated.
  3. Search notes or filter by attachment to find it again. Detach a target when the association no longer helps; detaching does not delete the note.

Annotate a passage

Passage notes also appear in Notes. Editing one there edits the original annotation, not a separate copy. Presentation controls can expose more marks without changing the manuscript or anchors.

  1. Select the relevant prose and use the passage-note control. Write and save your note.
  2. Use its margin marker to preview or open it beside the highlighted passage. Tab can reach margin controls.
  3. If the passage changes, review uncertain or orphaned notes in the chapter’s notes list. An orphan remains available rather than being silently attached to unrelated text.

Turn a reminder into a task

  1. Open a World Note and choose Add task. Select note text first if you want to retain that text as the task’s source.
  2. Write a task title and choose Add. Mark done when finished, or Reopen to put it back on the list.
  3. The original note text stays intact. Task actions are for World Notes, not passage-note records.

Copy or delete deliberately

Copy note places its title and body on the clipboard when your browser permits it. Delete note removes the note, not the chapters or entities it was attached to. Export important research before deleting it.
