Details & linked words

Insert an entity’s detail into prose and keep that particular word linked to its source.

Browser editing requires a purchased license and Workspace sync. Desktop writing needs an active trial or license, without sync. Reading, search, and export of available work remain accessible. Check access requirements.

Add a detail to a record

  1. Open the entity record and add a detail, such as Eye color with the value amber.
  2. Give related details a group, such as Appearance, if that makes the record easier to scan. Pin details you want close at hand.
  3. Use the record’s details controls to rename, edit, reorder, or remove a field. An unchanged value does not need a new field with a different spelling.

Insert the value while writing

  1. In a chapter, type the entity’s name followed by a period and the beginning of a detail: for example, Mara.eye.
  2. Choose Eye color from the picker. The inserted prose reads amber; it is not a visible template placeholder.
  3. Continue the sentence normally. The inserted range retains a link to Mara’s detail.
  4. Change the record’s value to green and check the linked sentence. The linked range follows that value; other occurrences of amber that you typed independently are not a global search-and-replace target.

Choose how the linked word reads

Select the linked word to format this occurrence: choose its capitalization, and whether numbers are written as words or digits. A detail’s row settings set the defaults for new insertions; existing prose keeps its own formatting. Formatting choices describe the linked range; surrounding words remain yours.

Editing linked text directly can break the connection rather than overwrite what you typed with a later record value. An unresolved or missing source should be reviewed in context; the app should not silently replace it with an unrelated value.

Value history is not story chronology

The detail’s history records edits to that value, with recent typing coalesced and a bounded edit history. It is not a timeline of when the character’s eyes changed inside the story. Use authored continuity claims and planning dates for story facts and story time.

Exports keep readable words in the manuscript. Keep a full World export when you also need the live reference relationships and editing structure.
